My first experience doing construction work was when I was about 10. My family's house had this old wooden deck that was starting to fall apart, and my parents wanted to replace it. They offered my little brother and me a nickel per screw if we helped take apart the deck. Of course, we weren't going to pass up on that opportunity. It wasn't exactly hard labor, but I remember spending hours out on that deck with my brother and our drills. By the end of the summer, we had each made over $80! Neither of us thought there would be that many screws in the deck. The next project was building the new deck. Even though construction made me rich as a kid, it's not my profession, but it's still something that I love to learn more about, hence the blog.
